Taking the prize for the most avant-garde colour scheme... This shoe really clings to the trails, providing great traction, although I did find large clumps of mud sandwiched to the outsole – even after extended running on hard-pack. With only 6mm of drop, fairly solid cushioning and a low weight, it is perfect for those who prefer a more natural, responsive ride. The mesh feels hardwearing but protection is minimal outside of the toe bumper. Merrell’s HyperWrap 360 Degrees Fit System does secure the foot well but I struggled to find the ‘sweet spot’ between too loose and constricting. The integrated tongue also makes getting the shoe on and off a challenge.
Good all-year grip, very responsive; hurtling through the trees was a lot of fun.
