The Speed Instinct has less cushioning than Hoka One One’s classic road models, however, the feel is plush and it performs well on- or off-road. It’s superbly comfortable, but with enough protection and grip on the sole to cope with rocky terrain – although it does struggle in mud. The Meta-Rocker gives a super-smooth ride that makes running a relaxing experience, and it doesn’t feel as low drop as its 3mm suggests. It lacks the precision of many of the more race-specific shoes and we wouldn’t pick it for fast, technical running, but for a recovery run over a mixed terrain it’s a great choice.
VERDICT: Comfortable, lightweight and cushioned – perfect for recovery running.
