Brooks’ latest trail shoe is packed with midsole cushioning – the BioMoGo DNA system – to protect and propel each stride. For some runners, particularly beginners used to road running, this will likely be greatly appreciated, as the extra support is immediately noticeable. With a 4mm drop it isn’t overbearing, but did feel bulky on shorter, faster runs and also seemed to encourage under-pronation, which was off-putting. One saving grace is the multi-directional grip, including hexagonal lugs on the balls of the feet, which aided with quick turns of pace on unsteady terrain. A good shoe for slower, steadier runs on tough trails, but not for racing.
Sturdy grip that’s ideal for rough terrain and long distances, but a bit bulky.
