If you’re a relatively new trail convert, you might be nervous about the lack of support and cushioning offered by most trail shoes. This shoe from Asics marries a rugged trail outsole with the level of cushioning and support you might expect from a road shoe; the end resut is a bit of a hybrid. The tread isn’t exactly fearsome-looking but the grip design excels on hard-pack and grit and you won’t go skidding on soft earth or light mud. The mesh upper looks as if it belongs more to a road shoe and there is minimal toe protection so this shoe may not be the most durable. But, the ride is nice and bouncy and there is a top level of support – it’s designed for over-pronators.
Built for comfort, rather than to take a battering, but we’re not all mountain-runners.
