The Classic pack has evolved over the years but remains one of the best for multi-day, multi-sport adventures. Features include removable sleeping/back pad, zipped lid and hip pockets and adjustable mesh side and front pockets for waterproofs and other gear. Good adjustment but may not fit smaller runners so well.

Verdict: Well-designed, well-featured mountain marathon pack.

Billed as a multi-use active trail pack, the Maya is a classic rucksack design. Despite being women’s-specific it was tricky to get it comfy enough to run in. Featuring a fully-unzippable main compartment, hip belt pockets, side pockets and expandable helmet storage it’s durable and great as a travel bag and for general use.

Verdict: Durable and plenty of storage; good for active travel.

The large main compartment is excellent for bulkier items such as sleeping bags and tents, making this a great choice for self-sufficient, multi-day adventures. Stretch front and side pockets plus two bottle holder and zipped pockets on the front mean everything’s just where you need it. The back length is on the long side.

Verdict: Great for longer adventures; may not suit shorter backs.
