A super-lightweight pack designed specifically for multi-day running, cycling and adventure racing. The soft back system carries 25 litres of kit well but requires careful packing for comfort. Well-featured for running with a wide zip opening, large zipped hip pockets, a zipped lid pocket and external wand pockets.

Verdict: Lightweight and well-featured; a top choice for racing.

The woven back pad is comfortable, supportive and low-waste, while the main pack is PFC-free and features large zipped wand pockets, chest pockets and stretchy stash pockets in a really comfortable race vest-style design.  

Verdict: Outstanding run-specific pack that’s stable and well featured.

Verdict: A great multi-activity pack that’s good on the run.

It is a bit on the heavy side but the support and protection offered, combined with useful stash pockets and a tough base fabric, make it a well-featured and useful pack.

Verdict: Good for carrying heavier loads in comfort.

It’s fairly expensive but the build quality is outstanding and there’s a 2.5-litre hydration system and 2 x 500ml soft flasks included.

Verdict: Comfortable and well-featured; ideal for fastpacking.

Good adjustment but may not fit smaller runners so well.

Verdict: Well-designed, well-featured mountain marathon pack.

Billed as a multi-use active trail pack, the Maya is a classic rucksack design. Despite being women’s-specific it was tricky to get it comfy enough to run in. Featuring a fully-unzippable main compartment, hip belt pockets, side pockets and expandable helmet storage it’s durable and great as a travel bag and for general use.

Verdict: Durable and plenty of storage; good for active travel.

Verdict: Great for longer adventures; may not suit shorter backs.
