The June-July 2018 edition of Trail Running carries a 32-page special inov-8 section on planning your perfect summer. Here's what 2017 Maverick Snowdonia Marathon winner Elyse Paulson told us she is looking forward to over the next few months
Some dream of spending the summer in Europe doing the UTMB, or heading Stateside for events such as Tahoe Rim Trail. Not me.
The UK is a trail runner’s dream and the events on our small unassuming island have been grown on an inherent love for the outdoors. For that reason my perfect summer of trail running would see me look no further than my own backyard, wrapped head to toe in inov-8 kit, knowing I’ll be prepared for the adventures that await.
My perfect summer would be spent soaking up the exceptionally average UK weather, completing the Maverick Race Peak District Marathon, running a full round of the Isle of Wight Challenge, stopping only to eat back-pocket Haribo on uncomfortable pebble beaches, then heading to Snowdonia to complete the Welsh 3000s, being 95% sure that it will rain, over-apologising for any inconvenience my running may be causing and downplaying any success in a way that only we British can. It’s not exotic, but it’s home, it’s beautiful and it’s on the doorstep, ready to enjoy at a moment’s notice.
Coupled with my favourite inov-8 Softshell, Roclite 290s and 15L All-Terrain Pack, the UK is mine for the conquering this summer and that sounds like undeniable perfection!
