Trail Running was live in the studio as part of Virgin Breakfast show DJ, Chris Evans’ breakfast show to officially announce the launch of RunFestRun, a weekend of all things trail running (with a bit of music thrown in).
Billed as ‘Britain’s big new running party’, the family-friendly festival will take place from 31st May – 2nd June this year in the beautiful grounds of Bowood House and Gardens and as Chris says, it’s a series of races that will celebrate your training.
We have to say it sounds fantastic and looks perfect for a fab family weekend with camping, or for the less hardcore among us, glamping. But let’s start with the important facts first: apart from the headline act Olly Murs there will be a series of races all the way from 2.5km to half marathon where taking part is the name of the game.
As world record holder Colin Jackson – a team captain for the weekend – says, “this won’t be a weekend about times; people often lose the real essence of what running is all about but this festival has been created to remind people about all the positive elements running has.”
World record holder Steve Cram – also a team captain for the Festival – agrees. “Remember, running is mean to be fun and this event promises to pull all those elements together that will make it just that.”
So, what’s all this team captain thing about? Well, giant teams will be created where points not position will count and you’ll be led by either Colin, Steve, Paula Radlcliffe or Natasha Evans. Things kick off with a ‘Feel Good Friday’ that includes a Sunset Shuffle, led by our running celebrities, followed by music from Razorlight and Reef.
Super Saturday will offer a challenge for both seasoned marathon runners along with those just starting their fitness journey and culminate in an incredible party including Ten Tonnes, The Coral, Faithless DJ set and headliner, Olly Murs.
Sunday will see Bowood turn to Bugwood as a fancy dress bug themed fun run swarms the venue. Dressed up runners will take on the 2.5k or 5k Big Bug Run with special challenges to win extra points for your team. The run will be followed by a mega lunchtime party with two hours of amazing bands, DJs, street acts and special guests before the closing ceremony at 3pm.
And to make sure it’s a real family affair, the weekend will also boast a host of top talent from great sporting speakers to food fanatics, mindfulness mentors and awesome authors. The current line-up includes, Fearne Cotton, Melissa Hemsley, Jo Pavey, Christine Ohuruogu & Ben Smith to name but a few.
See you there!
