THE DAMP SUMMER CONTINUES
So much for a summer run- mist, drizzle, mud but it was at least sort of warm! #commitedinov8
Meet our #CommittedInov8 winners: four lucky readers who are going to be running further and faster than ever before this summer.
What could possibly be more invigorating or rewarding than running off-road on a hot summer’s day? Well, how about running off-road while kitted out in premium running gear and under the guidance of a pro fell-running champion? Prepare to get jealous; we know we are.
Earlier this year, we ran a competition in association with Inov-8, the fell-specialist shoe and apparel company, to find four committed readers ready for an epic running experience. Each would be kitted out in Inov-8 running kit, given an entry to a race this summer, and trained up for it by Ben Mounsey, a fell-running champion. We received loads of amazing entries but eventually narrowed the field to four outstanding bloggers and runners – you can find out more about them below. Over the coming months, we’ll be updating you with their progress and providing you with training and racing tips to help you make the most of this summer too.
MEET OUR FOUR WINNERS...
If TR ran a Mum of the Year award, Sophie would take the prize. She regularly runs with her son in a buggy, and competes in trail races and triathlons on the side – oh, and she’s a lawyer. Based in Bristol, she has access to a plethora of hills and craggy ground, along with beautiful beaches to run along. Having run several marathons already, Sophie is in a prime position to hunt down a PB over this summer, so long as the buggy stays at home! sophieruffles.wordpress.com
When we heard about Neil’s decision to run ultra-marathons on a vegan diet, we had to know more. So far, it seems to be working – he’s tackled 10ks, half marathons and full marathons with a gusto. Living in Norfolk, Neil’s biggest challenge will be training for a hilly race without an incline for miles around, but we’re confident he’ll surpass that obstacle with Ben’s expert help. Watch out for our next issue for tips on training for hills on flat ground. poweredbythevegblog.wordpress.com
Hailey impressed us with her sheer enthusiasm for running in beautiful places. Living in the Lake District, she has access to some of the most stunning hills in the UK and takes full advantage in her training. After having completed some incredible events – the Hardmoors Ultra and Lakeland 50, to name just two – she takes hills in her stride and, while she should have no difficulty tackling whatever terrain we put in front of her, the prospect of a PB under Ben’s tutelage will keep Hailey running hard. hailultratrail.wordpress.com
Could you commit to a year of running and cycling through the fells of Britain, while documenting the entire journey? That’s the undertaking Dan is currently working his way through, and his dedication to exploring new trails really caught our eye. From Brighton to Langdale, he’s lifting the lid on the UK’s lesser-known natural beauties. With Ben’s expertise to help fine-tune his training, Dan is perfectly positioned to make this his best summer of running yet. sabbatycle.wordpress.com
