Organisers will decide by November whether to stage the rescheduled World Mountain and Trail Running Championships in Thailand as planned next February.

The inaugural edition of the combined championships for mountain and trail running was due to be held in November, but it was conceded last week that the pandemic made this impossible. The dates for the Chang Mai event were given as February 11-13 2022.

The World Mountain Running Association, International Trail Running Association and International Association of Ultra Runners has issued a joint statement suggesting the event may have to be further moved to next November.

Meanwhile, the hosting of the 2023 World Masters Mountain Running Championships has been awarded to the island of Madeira. This year's event will take place in Telfes, Austria, on September 3-5.
