Ultra trail legend Kilian Jornet is auctioning off signed Salomon S-Lab running shoes to help support those affected by the volcano eruption on the island of La Palma.

Jornet, a former winner of the island's famous Transvulcania Ultramarathon, is supporting the Lavalientes initiative, which was launched in response to the Cumbre Vieja Volcano disaster.

The shoes will be auctioned on eBay with a starting bid of €500 and a time limit of seven days. All funds raised after discounting the website charges will go directly to the Island of La Palma Council for the assistance of those whose lives have been disrupted.

The Transvulcania Ultramarathon, which was due to be held at the end of this month, has been cancelled as the volcano continues to spew lava more than three weeks on from its initial explosion. About 6000 people on the Canarian island have been displaced.

Spanish professional basketballer Pau Gasol is another high-profile individual who is supporting the auction appeal.
