Jim Walmsley and Tom Evans among UTMB week entrants

World's most prestigious trail running event set to feature big names

Jim Walmsley, Tom Evans, Camille Herron and Courtney Dauwalter are among the prominent names on the newly released list of entrants for this year's Ultra-Trail du Mont Blanc festival.

These runners entered via the ballot, while other elite runners such as Kilian Jornet could be take up an elite place at a later date.

Walmsley would be seeking his first win in the series of races, heading the entries for the showcase event, the 170km UTMB. The American recently set the second fastest ever 100km time on the roads.

Defending champion Paul Capell of Spain is scheduled to back after last year's event was cancelled due to the pandemic.

They will be up against three-time winners Francois D'Haene and Xavier Thevenard, both of France.

Also set to take part are Brits Damian Hall, who was fifth in 2018 and Harry Jones, who was 15th in the most recent edition.

American Dauwalter, who has also won the Western States 100, is also seeking to retain her title. Her compatriot Herron, who has set numerous world ultra records on the roads, will be looking to make her mark on the event.

Beth Pascall, who has finished fourth and fifth in this event, will be leading the British charge. Jo Meek, who was second in the UTMB CCC race in 2016, is also listed.

Also entered are Ragna Debats and Mimmi Kotka, winners of the CCC race in 2019 and 2016 respectively and Audrey Tanguy, twice winner of the TDS.

Britain's Evans, who won the CCC race in 2018, is due to take part in the TDS event this time - as are compatriots Tom Owens, who was fourth in the UTMB in 2019, and top skyrunner Holly Page.

UTMB week is set for August 23-29, based in Chamonix, with the UTMB headliner starting on August 27.
