Restrictions throughout the COVID-19 pandemic have taken its toll on people’s mental health throughout the last year, where loneliness and isolation have exacerbated. The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport ‘Strategy For Tackling Loneliness’ report stated that “people need local clubs, groups and events, as well as communities of shared interests that cut across geography or background”.

Exercise is encouraged within government guidelines and has a positive impact on people’s physical and mental health, so Hits Radio are creating the UK’s most inclusive socially-distant running club, so those who are disengaged can feel part of a supportive and active community.

Every weekday 1st - 26th March during Wes Butter & Gemma Atkinson’s drive time show there will be a mixture of positive stories, professional fitness advice from athletes, supportive messages and a non-stop music mix at 6.30pm to get you out running. This won’t be about the fastest runner but an audio ‘social circle’ where everyone is welcome. You can walk, jog or run, anything that gets the blood pumping. Mel C, Linford Christie OBE, Iwan Thomas MBE, Dame Kelly Holmes and Gabby Logan are among celebrities encouraging listeners to take part.

Runners can join the Hit the Streets Club on Strava and connect with other runners across the country, sharing messages of support and encouragement.

Listen to Hit the Streets on live Hits Radio every weekday from 6:30pm or get the running playlists on demand via the Hits Radio app.

Listen on DAB, via the Hits Radio app or ask your Smart Speaker to ‘Play Hits Radio’
