The World Mountain Running Cup continues this weekend with two races in Italy which both feature top-class fields.

The Vertical Nasego over just 4.2km and with 1000m of ascent will take place in Casto, Lombardy, on Saturday. Classifying as a "vertical kilometre", it will present a very different challenge than that of the Trofeo Nasego the day afterwards, which will be over 21km with 4300m of ascent. Most of the top athletes are due to start both races.

World mountain running champion Grayson Murphy, who recently won the US title, will compete in Europe for the first time. She will face Britain's Charlotte Morgan, who currently leads the World Cup standings, and Austria's six-time world champion Andrea Mayr.

Kenya's twice world champion Lucy Murigi, as well as France's Alice Ponset and Britain's Phillipa Williams, who were second and third in the last world championships, are also there.

Ireland's reigning World Cup champion Sarah McCormack, Italy's Alice Gaggi, who is second in the standings, and Kenya's in-form Joyce Njeru should also feature at the front.

The silver and bronze winners from the last world championships are in action on the men's side in Italy's Cesare Maestri and Czech Republic's Marek Chraschina but they will have tough opposition in the shape of defending champion Henri Aymonod of Italy.

Hungary's Sandor Szabo and Kenya's, who lie second and third on the World Cup leaderboard, Ireland's Zak Hanna and Eritrea's Petro Mamu should also challenge.
