Germany's Filimon Abraham and Italy's Francesca Ghelfi took the individual victories at the World Mountain Running Association Nations Cup on Sunday.
Meanwhile, England's women took team gold and England's men team silver in the 15-way international along the along the Val Bregaglia Trail from Switzerland over the border to Italy.
Ghelfi covered the 19km course in 1 hour 34 minutes 1 second, having stretched away from Scotland's Scout Adkin, who was second in 1:35:47.
Adkins and England's Kate Maltby had taken the early lead, having a 30-second margin over Ghelfi and compatriot Alice Gaggi at 10km. However, at the 15.8km checkpoint, it was Ghelfi who had a 45-second lead, which she extended to 106 seconds by the end.
Germany's Hanna Groeber was third, four seconds behind Adkin, Gaggi was another five seconds behind and next was Maltby.
Lengel Lolkurraru of Kenya and Filimon Abraham of German led early on in the men's race, having a 40-second gap by 4.5km.
Abraham extended his lead to 19 seconds over the last 5km to come home in 1:18:29. Behind Lolkurraru, Slovenia's Timotej Becan was third. In fifth, England's Chris Richards was the top Brit.
The event had been arranged with just six weeks' notice to fill the gap in the competitive calendar caused by the postponement of the World Mountain Running Championships in Thailand.
