Snowdonia will host Britain’s only UTMB event on July 1-3 as the Ultra-Trail Snowdonia (UTS) is added to the premier series. The event in Wales is one of 25 forming part of the new UTMB World Series.

The races feature 3100m, 6600m and 10,200m of elevation gain respectively on predominantly technical mountain trails. However, the organisers are keen to stress the event is not challenging merely for the sake of it. The routes explore Snowdonia's most scenic valleys, rugged peaks and dramatic landscapes and are among the most spectacular in the UK.

With that in mind, Trail Running magazine recently ran the route with two running legends Damian Hall and Nicky Spinks, who were both so impressed with the race they signed up there and then – Spinks for the 165km and Hall the 50km. “I may struggle to do it this year though, but I’m very keen to do the UTS as soon as possible,” Hall admitted, adding he loves the challenge Snowdonia provides. It’s technical, it’s stunning and so rewarding. We ran four hours through the mountains, but that truly that went in a flash. Here’s your chance to sign up today.

UTS 165: The UK’s ultimate mountain ultra-trail.

Boasting a staggering 10,200m+ over its technical and unrelenting 165kms, only the most committed mountain ultrarunner need apply. With four UTMB Running Stones on offer, representing four entries to the 2023 UTMB Mont-Blanc lottery, the suffering will be more than worth it to those strong enough to finish.

UTS 100: The long day out.

If you’ve done a 50-miler already, this race is your ideal first foray into the 100km distance, and an ideal stepping stone up to the 165. Be under no illusion though: with a whopping 6600m+ elevation gain along its technical mountain trails, and an average finishing time of just under 25 hours last year, this is certainly not a race to be underestimated. With three UTMB Running Stones on offer to all finishers, if you make it back in daylight, you’ll be doing well!

UTS 50: The perfect entry-level mountain ultra!

Even though it was only staged for the first time last year, it’s no surprise that this year’s 50 is nearly full. This route covers mostly easier trails, exploring some quieter hidden gems of Snowdonia National Park over its 50kms & 3100m+. For some, this is a great introduction to serious mountain ultra-trail running; for others, a great training race for longer endeavours. With two UTMB Running Stones on offer to all finishers, a civil 9am start and a generous 14-hour limit, enjoy a splendid day out in beautiful scenery and be back in time for last orders!
